In 2019, a team of Saving Lives Volunteers returned to Myanmar. In this mission, we visited the Ywar Thit Kyi Basic Education Post Primary School, situated at the Ywar Thit Village in Bogalay.
Prior to the 2015 tsunami, the students had their classes in the open fields without a classroom. After the tsunami, the government built a rudimentary structure for the school but the severe lack of facilities posed challenges to learning for the students.
The team then embarked on a fund raising campaign for the students which gained the strong support from samaritans Mr & Mrs Chen Yong Long.
The students obtained stationery, umbrellas, books and other study kits. The children, unable to conceal their joy, chattered and cheered in excitement. It was a touching moment.
In addition, the team also raised funds to install electrical wiring, repair the ceiling, and install compartments to create separate classrooms so that the students can concentrate better during lessons.
We hope the students will now have a better start in discovering and acquiring knowledge.
